7th-Mar-2009 11:34 pm - Roe Deer, Ravens...
Photobucket

Today I visited the island again. I carried some food for birds and obviously for mice too. I was really happy when I noticed many Roe Deer trails around the cabin. It (or them) had been there recently. Blue, Willow and Great Tits enjoyed my sunflower seeds and grease lumps. I saw at least two mice collecting seeds for their own purposes. I'm almost sure that they belong to the big family of my dear Ivan!

LOOK WHAT I SAW!!!

It's a Roe Deer! I was sailing with Mörkö today when I noticed something strange in the water. At first, I though it was a Black-throated Diver but when I looked at it closed with binoculars, I discovered it was a deer, the Roe Deer! The place wasn't very far from the place where I found deer footprints some week ago. The water was only 9 degrees of Celsius, too cold for swimming even for us Finns! The deer survived and now it lives in another island.

21st-Sep-2008 10:23 pm - Roe Deer
I was really amazed when I noticed new footprints in the island. I had no idea that Roe Deer could be found this far north at all! I've seen them earlier in the southern Finland, so the species is familiar to me, but here!!! I suppose, deer must be even more difficult to see in the forest than a bear.

Today when I was sneaking in the "southern" island with my camera, I heard some voices. I must say that the lady with a berry basket was even more surprised when I appeared with my camera from the bushes than I was. There aren't that many people wandering around those islands! I told her that I was just looking for the bear and wished her luck with berries. Well, at least she left MY berries untouched and rowed away, heh heh!

I took a picture of the Roe Deer's footprint. The scale is so ugly that I'll hide the picture under LJ cut...

21st-Apr-2008 11:11 pm - The evening tour
Photobucket

Nice sunny spring days are still here. I couldn't stay inside and decided to go out after work. I tried to find a Moose near my home but you can't get it all although I wouldn't have been so surprised if I had seen one or two. I found those yellow flowers that are really common in here. It's called Leskenlehti (=Widow's Leaf). But the better finding was the other spring flower which name in English I don't know either.

31st-Mar-2008 10:47 pm - Enough is enough!
I think you have exhausted enough because of my Borneo photos. I'll keep the rest 900 pics in my archives...

Tomorrow morning I'm heading to Lapland. I'll spend the rest of the week cross-country skiing, probably some down hill skiing included and if the weather is nice I may visit northern Norway.

Gentlemen, start your engines, 2500 kilometres ahead...
