4th-Sep-2008 10:19 pm - My new driving licence
After the eye surgery, I can see without glasses. That's why I have to renew my driving licence. It's written in the old one that I have to use glasses when driving, and now police might give me a ticket for violating that special term.

I just have to take a new photo and give it to the police station with the doctor's certificate about the improved eyesight. They give me a new licence and it costs 14 euro. I decided to save some money and made some new photos of myself. You can help me choosing the new picture for the license.

Which one is your favourite? )

It's so dark. I can see stars! Darkness means that summer is gone and those light summer nights as well. But somehow I can enjoy because I can see stars bright and sharp without glasses or any optical devices first time in my life. My owl eyes!  :)
12th-Aug-2008 11:30 pm - Rillit (in English)
Yesterday, I posted a short story about my eye surgery in Finnish. Sorry about that! Shortly my point was that I visited the eye doctor yesterday. This time it was just a routine check-up. I should have done it about one month after the surgery, but as I have told you, I had to visit the doctor several times during the first four weeks after the operation.

Now, almost four months later, my eyes are in good condition. The doctor didn't find any problems. The eye pressure was normal, my eyes looked clear and no infections were found. The sharpness of my eyesight was great (1.2 when 1.0 is average eyesight). I also got a confirmation of my thoughts about seeing with both eyes at the same time. So, I have ability to see in three dimensions for the first time in my life!

Having two functional eyes took some time to get used to. Now, I don't have any difficulty with that situation. As predicted, I need glasses when I read. That's because I'm so old :(

Otherwise, I'm just more than happy about the current situation.

My wallet is about 3000 € thinner. I think it was worth it. Nobody knows how long this great eyesight stays as it is now, but I hope I can live without glasses 5 to 10 years. Then, it's probable that I need a new surgery or glasses but that's another story.
11th-Aug-2008 10:18 pm - Rillit (in Finnish)
Ajattelin kirjoitella vähän suomeksi rilleistä ja niistä eroon hankkiutumisesta. Tarinahan on pääosin tuttu entuudestaan, sillä olen englanniksi kertoillut tapahtumia.

13th-May-2008 07:14 pm - I feel better now...

The eye pressure is in control. I can see clearly and quite sharp. I do hope this status is not temporary and would be pleased with this eyesight for the rest of my life. I'm not celebrating yet but a whole day without problems sounds good.

12th-May-2008 09:38 pm - Good and bad news
A short eye update here.

Good news first. I still have beautiful blue bright eyes. My blindness seems to be temporarily. Yesterday when I opened my eyes in the morning I could see clear and bright. The situation continued some hours and although I was in the island surrounded by sunlight and water that reflected light I felt good. Later in the evening the sight was a bit blurry.

Some bad news. I visited the doctor last Friday. My eye pressure was high and he ordered another medicine. That was a mistake. The new stuff was like glue. My eyes dried and started to weep and became sticky. I stopped using the new medicine and returned to the first one on Saturday morning. I could not ask instructions because it was weekend. Luckily I had my friend as a driver when we went to push Mörkö to the lake. I was half blind again. On Sunday I didn't use any medicine. I had certain suspicions about the high eye pressure and I know it can be fatal to the eyesight. Probably my Sunday was so bright because I didn't use any medication. I have become (mentally) allergic to bright lights. I'm afraid of dazzle and use sunglasses almost all the time. Today I visited the doctor again. He assumed I'm allergic to the medicine (both) I used and high eye pressure came because of that. GREAT! What's next! Now I have new pills and drops to lower the pressure and I ended using those high pressure medicines. High pressure should be temporarily which I count as good news.

It's almost three weeks since the surgery was done. The prediction was that I can drive by car 2-3 days after the surgery. My god, I don't want to meet people who drive car in such condition. Today I was still mostly unable to drive and I was happy I had navigator when I returned home. Obviously everything has gone more or less wrong during this episode. I still believe my eyes will heal and some day I can enjoy my hawk eyes or owl eyes (any eyes will do). I have taken this situation calmly and will not lose my nerves because I made this surgery decision myself and knew there are risks. Well, I was aware that healing could take days to months, so I'm in the schedule.

Tomorrow, I hope I will have the same feeling I had on Sunday. The pressure is lowering, I can feel and see the result with my own eyes.

EDIT. I thought about it but forgot to mention that my doctor has taken the slow progress and all my complication very seriously (free of charge). That's one of the reasons why I'm still confident about the successful ending.
8th-May-2008 01:37 pm - I can see better now !
I'm going to the eye doctor soon. I was badly scared yesterday but I feel much better now.

EDIT. Well, the doctor said I'm better now. I have to continue the medication over the weekend and my eyesight should return to the normal level. How long it's going to take - I don't know. Hours, days, weeks, we will see. Again, when I came back home from the doctor the bright daylight dazzled me baddly and I'm more or less blinded. I'll visit the doctor tomorrow again.

An unpleasant surprise appeared :(

My eyesight has improved since the surgery (two weeks ago now) slowly but to the right direction. Last weekend I enjoyed the perfect sight in the island but on Monday my eyes became blurry. Bright lights dazzled me badly and I could see rainbows around lights. I thought that I got too much sunlight during the weekend. On Tuesday the situation turned even worse and I made an appointment to my eye doctor.

Today I drove to the doctor by car, which wasn't a good idea but I did it. My eyesight was still bad. The doctor said that he had never seen so good-looking eyes with so bad eyesight after the surgery. Great! At least I have beautiful eyes although almost blind ones. The result was that I have an uncommon complication because of the laser surgery. The doctor promised that the situation can be cured and ordered me eye drops. Now I put those drops once every hour and return to the doctor tomorrow. The eyesight should be better then. I had to call my friend to drive me back home because I had those big black alien eyes again after the doctor's visit.

I'm feeling okay because there's no pain but I'm worried.

What a pain! When I woke up my eyes were like Niagara Falls and I felt an unpleasant pain somewhere behind my eyes and inside my head. The light was so painful. It took hours to get used to the light. Now it's better and the pain is not bothering me any more. I don't wear those goggles now. I should put them on when sleeping to prevent rubbing my eyes.

I can not describe my feelings. My eyesight is clearer than yesterday. I think some of those tears come just because of the joy of seeing.

edit at 2 pm.

There was no chocolate left in the household. I had to visit the local food store and I drove there by car (of course). WOW, where did all these signs, traffic lights, pedestrians and cars came from to my neighbourhood??? That was one of a scary experience!!! Also found the sun shine really painful and the light dazzled me badly. Had to buy sunglasses. Those I received from the eye doctor are probably a bit too stylish to wear in my ordinary life.

The surgery succeeded. Now I have to wear posh goggles for the next 24 hours. My vision is still blurry but I can already say that I can see trees on the horizon, I can read and everything between. This is amazing!

Tomorrow is the eye surgery day.... nervous - YES!
8th-Apr-2008 11:33 pm - Alien's look
Photobucket

Today I visited the eye doctor. They examined my eyes and found nothing wrong in my eyes. (except I can't see much). He put some drops in my eyes and the pupils enlarged so that I looked like an alien. The effect lasted many hours and bright lights blinded me. I saw two women in the surgery waiting for their final operation. They were both REALLY nervous! I think I will be as well on 23rd of April when my time comes.
26th-Mar-2008 11:52 pm - A blind guitar hero?

My new guitar arrived today. It's beautiful! Now I'm just learning how to play...

Another announcement. I booked an eye surgery time. The 23rd of April I will be there and either get a perfect eyesight or lose my eyesight - who knows. I'm uncertain and worried, almost scared. I have a preparing control visit before that and if nothing unexpected shows up, then I will do it. Huh, that worries me more than anything else before.

Do you know José Feliciano? He's a blind guitar player. I hope that's not my destiny...

I've been thinking. I got my first glasses when I was six years old. For some years I have been interested in operations to improve my eyesight. I know some people who have gone through the surgery with good results although I know one with not so succeeded results. There's always a risk of complications or bad results. Perhaps I'm old enough to the risk. When/if I return from Borneo, my next project will be to visit eye doctor. If they promise to take my money and even try to improve my eyesight, I'm ready for it.

Does anyone have experiences? (good or bad are all welcome)
